Training & Services
Working with small to medium sized dogs, 15kgs or less, my training is one-on-one. This gives you a clearer understanding about your dog’s behaviour, as opposed to a classroom setting where you may not get the attention needed to effectively learn and deal with your dog’s specific issues. This brings about the sustainable changes you want to see in your pet, and builds a loving, respectful relationship between you and your dog.
Training starts with a visit to your home environment where I can observe the dog in its surroundings, assess behaviour issues, and discuss your concerns. This helps me understand the issues that need addressing.
Then your dog and I go away from your property to a neutral area, for a short evaluation. This way I can focus on getting a clear understanding of your dog’s personality without external influence from you and your family. These sessions are video recorded to document how your dog is progressing. The method I use is safe and works well on a wide range of behavioural issues.
After working with your dog, I work with you and the rest of your dog’s human family. I take the time necessary to help the whole family understand the steps needed to implement positive changes.
My training & services include:
Indoor behaviour management
This includes how to correct silly habits indoors as well as separation anxiety. It also includes a range of other behaviours such as jumping on you, your family and visitors, barking at neighbours, stealing food from kitchen bench as well mouthing and leaning on you or your family.
Loose lead walking and training walks
Despite popular belief, your dog actually wants to walk on a lead without pulling, and they want you to manage the walk and control any situation that arises. I will help you gain the confidence needed when walking your dog, so that it becomes a pleasant experience. I can also provide training walks for your dog while you are at work.
Getting ready for a puppy or new dog
I will help you set up your home for the arrival of a new puppy, or a new dog. It’s better to have your home ready before the new addition, rather than trying to cope afterwards. I also provide one-on-one puppy training which is especially important during the first 4 months. I then help with integrating your new family member into your home.
General obedience
This covers basic training for you and your dog and includes commands such as sit, down, stay and recall. Once I have worked with your dog and feel the dog understands, I bring you and your family into the training to implement useable techniques that will provide lasting and effective changes.
Outdoor behaviour management
This covers a wide range of situations including recall, noise desensitisation and working around other animals outside your home. Muzzle training can also be done if you have a dog which forages and scavenges inappropriate items off the ground. Again, when I feel the dog understands what is expected, I work with you to gain confidence needed to take your dog outdoors.
